Yeah, Lovebug is amazing. Iapos;ll just start with that.

And second, I AM GOING TO ANN ARBOR ON NOV. 14TH At first, my parents didnapos;t want me to drive that far because they never let me drive farther than...well, I once drove to Missouri. But they still hate letting me drive. Finally, after seeing that the Ann Arbor public library is only 1 hour and 3 minutes away, Iapos;m allowed to go.

Iapos;ll get to see John again and meet Hank for the first time.

By the way, Paper Towns is ABSOLUTELY amazing and recommend it to EVERYONE. Seriously, I havenapos;t read a book that good in forever and I just love it.

And if youapos;re in the mood for some Christmasy stories, thereapos;s always Let It Snow, which I also got this weekend. And it made me all happy inside. Itapos;s just amazing.

Homework Due This Week (That I Still Need to Do)
- Zinsser reflection
- A Fine Balance paper

- Newspaper log
- Pay It Forward reading
- Atonement reading

And thatapos;s it. Iapos;m not looking forward to that paper.

WASHINGTON ndash; Colin Powell, a Republican who was President Bushapos;s first secretary of state, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president Sunday and criticized the tone of Republican John McCainapos;s campaign.

The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said either candidate, both of them senators, is qualified to be commander in chief. But he said Obama is better suited to handle the nationapos;s economic problems as well as help improve its standing in the world.

"It isnapos;t easy for me to disappoint Sen. McCain in the way that I have this morning, and I regret that," Powell, interviewed on NBCapos;s "Meet the Press," said of his longtime friend, the Arizona senator.

But, he added: "I think we need a transformational figure. I think we need a president who is a generational change and thatapos;s why Iapos;m supporting Barack Obama, not out of any lack of respect or admiration for Sen. John McCain."

Powellapos;s endorsement has been much anticipated because he is a Republican with impressive foreign policy credentials, a subject on which Obama, a first-term senator from Illinois, is weak. Powell is a Republican centrist who is popular among moderate voters.

At the same time, Powell is a black man and Obama would be the nationapos;s first black president. Powell said he was cognizant of the racial aspect of his endorsement, but said that was not the dominant factor in his decision. If it was, he said, he would have made the endorsement months ago.

Powell expressed disappointment in the negative tone of McCainapos;s campaign, his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a running mate and McCainapos;s and Palinapos;s decision to focus in the closing weeks of the contest on Obamaapos;s ties to 1960s-era radical William Ayers. A co-founder of the Weather Underground, which claimed responsibility for nonfatal bombings during the Vietnam War-era, Ayers is now a college professor who lives in Obamaapos;s Chicago neighborhood. He and Obama also served together on civic boards in Chicago.

"This Bill Ayers situation thatapos;s been going on for weeks became something of a central point of the campaign," Powell said. "But Mr. McCain says that heapos;s a washed-out terrorist. Well, then, why do we keep talking about him?"

Powell said McCainapos;s choice of Palin raised questions about judgment.

"I donapos;t believe sheapos;s ready to be president of the United States," Powell said.

McCain seemed dismissive of Powellapos;s endorsement, saying he had support from four other former secretaries of state, all veterans of Republican administrations: Henry Kissinger, James A. Baker III, Lawrence Eagleburger and Alexander Haig.

"Well, Iapos;ve always admired and respected Gen. Powell. Weapos;re longtime friends. This doesnapos;t come as a surprise," he said on "Fox News Sunday."

Asked whether Powellapos;s endorsement would undercut his campaignapos;s assertion that Obama is not ready to lead, McCain said: "Well, again, we have a very, we have a respectful disagreement, and I think the American people will pay close attention to our message for the future and keeping America secure."

Obama called Powell to thank him for the endorsement, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

"I am beyond honored and deeply humbled to have the support of Gen. Colin Powell," Obama said in remarks prepared for a rally in Fayetteville, N.C. "Gen. Powell has defended this nation bravely, and he has embodied our highest ideals through his long and distinguished public service. ...And he knows, as we do, that this is a moment where we all need to come together as one nation mdash; young and old, rich and poor, black and white, Republican and Democrat."

Powell said he remains a Republican, even though he sees the party moving too far to the right. Powell supports abortion rights and affirmative action, and said McCain and Palin, both opponents of abortion, could put two more conservative justices on the Supreme Court.

"I would have difficulty with two more conservative appointments to the Supreme Court, but thatapos;s what weapos;d be looking at in a McCain administration," Powell said.

Powell, 71, gained popularity while serving as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nationapos;s top military commander, during the first Gulf war under President George H.W. Bush. After retiring from the military, speculation mounted that he would run for president in 1996 mdash; perhaps becoming the nationapos;s first black president mdash; but Powell opted against it.

As secretary of state, he helped make the case before the United Nations for the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, launched in March 2003.

Powell said the nationapos;s economic crisis provided a "final exam" of sorts for both Obama and McCain.

"In the case of Mr. McCain I found that he was a little unsure as to how to deal with the economic problems that we were having," Powell said. "Almost everyday there was a different approach to the problem and that concerned me, sensing that he doesnapos;t have a complete grasp of the economic problems that we had."

In contrast, Powell said Obama "displayed a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge and an approach to looking at problems like this. ..."

"I think that he has a definitive way of doing business that would serve us well," Powell said.

Powell said he does not plan to campaign for Obama.

Practise Makes Perfect

13th Sep 08: Practice makes Perfect

I realized I have to explain how the structure of the October Sports School is like. The Vovinam classes have been going on for around 2 years in the October Sport School. The school is actually a training ground for a variety of sports that includes at least 7 or 8 kinds of martial arts, most of them East Asian and another traditional Vietnamese martial arts too apart from Vovinam. Aside from martial arts, there are gymnastics and a lot of different dancing classes conducted too for people of different ages. Basically you name it, they have it type of school with a swimming pool thrown in too.

From what I asked from Thay Thu, Vovinam started to be popular in Vietnam because of Thay Long who came back from Russia after working 7 years for the Ministry of Foreign affairs. Back in Russia, he was responsible for developing Vovinam and in fact was the vice head of the Vovinam Russian Federation. After being posted back to Hanoi, Thay Long diverted all his efforts into developing Vovinam at itrsquo;s birthplace: Hanoi. Prior to that, there were few people learning Vovinam and classes were conducted in the houses of the different masters. After managing to secure the October Sports School as a training venue, regular classes have been conducted and a few early disciples have already had enough training to qualify as yellow belters teaching assistants. Slowly, from the teaching base from October school, more clubs were set up and different yellow belters were entrusted with the task to expand the club in Hanoi. So this explains why people who knew about Vovinam have told about how it had only begun to be popularized in the past 2 years. Currently, Thay Long (red belter master) is in charge of the organizational and administrative affairs of the Vovinam club in Hanoi and is the Vice President of the Hanoi Vovinam Federation and another red belter master Thay Binh is also one of the highest ranking master in Hanoi. He appeared more frequently in his vo phuc (uniform) and trained or coached than Thay Long. The third in command appeared to be the highest ranking yellow belter, Thay Viet who worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and speak good English. I think his role is sort of like a secretary of the Hanoi branch, and he was also the one who gave me my first Vovinam instruction. However, I am not too sure about Thay Viet but were just some of my observations.

Training today was only with 4 yellow belters, no red belters masters were around. We were asked to practice basic kicks in lines. Thay Trung singled me and Pierre out from all the other students as we go through our routines, patiently guiding the 2 of us and correcting what we have done wrong. Everyone appeared too be extra excited today, especially the younger students as there were mentions of mid autumn festival celebration tomorrow and they were asking each other of their plans. Mid Autumn Festival is a festival for kids and teenagers in Vietnam, more like a children day and so it is no wonder that everyone is looking forward to it.

Training moved on to the basic drilling of our light blue belter syllabus, but I was transferred with 6 more newcomers to be taught by Thay Minh in a group of 9, a revision of the four basic attack combinations. Thay Minh was actually practicing his own practices when he was asked to take us for class. He was nice to stop his own practice for us. During the break, Thay Minh came over to coach me and Pierre specifically. Really am thankful for the extra attention they give us. Thay Minh guided Pierre along as the moves were new to him and he needed more practices. As for me, I have gone through them before but am not too sure of the application of the different attacks. Thay Minh was very nice to let me practice on him.

Thay Tao helped out with the other newcomers and was patient to urge the new comers to try out again and again the new blocks. We were then given a rest.

I was reviewing the 4 basic combinations when I did one of the steps wrongly. The class that was resting beside was watching intently as I redid my steps again while others in my class were sitting around. They seemed to be discussing about me, smiling at me, I think they appreciate the effort I put in. When I got the number 3 combination wrong, one of them from another class immediately came up to me and showed me the right way to do it. There is really genuine concern for each other to practice well in the club.

The class ended together with no speech given as the red belters masters werersquo;nt around.

After class Thay Trung handed Thuy some cat apples that he had from somewhere, and it was passed around. There was no specific mention to give it to me so I didnrsquo;t take one. However, Pierre tried one, and apparently Thay Minh commented that it was a sour fruit.

This was the first time that we didnrsquo;t change out of our uniforms but went home straight. Most of the yellow belters as usual were having some drinks at the stall outside and they asked Thuy to join in, I was behind their bike so naturally I am asked too, though they didnrsquo;t ask me to. Thuy said she was busy, but helped me to invite all of them to my mid autumn party. They seemed interested and happy to be invited but I am not too sure who will come. Thay Trung aked for a number to contact, and Thuy replied that Thay Minh had her number already. I realized how inconvenient it can be without a phone but I guessed I just have to live with it.

We were on the road when we met 2 other guys, Hung and Hoang cycling. Recognized each other from our vo phuc (uniforms) Asked them to join in for our celebrations if they are free too, and one of them, Hoang was familiar to me as we talked before and he turned out to be from University of Bach Khoa (same school as Thuy and the same area where I am staying in). Haha, actually I like wearing my vo phuc back, it is a form of publicity and people tend to look at us or discuss about us. I heard a mother at the traffic lights asking her son if he likes our uniform and if he wanted to practice some martial arts, but I didnrsquo;t manage to hear the reply of the little kid. And tonight, I saw my first ever sky lanterns I thought they were moons at first, so bright and so pretty

The party must long since be over, at least Dan hoped. Heapos;d heard people coming back to the compound, ensconced on one of the chairs of the rec room with a copy of Derida Of Grammatology. Heavy stuff for so late at night, but it took his mind off of the events of earlier. Or it was supposed to. Tonight, though, it wasnapos;t working that well. Instead of reading essays on meaning and structure, he kept seeing Serenaapos;s face; that look. The disappointed one. The one that he usually wasnapos;t on the end of.

Slamming it shut, he pushed up off the chair. Sheapos;d be in her room, and maybe not asleep yet. If he just went down and apologised, they could straighten all this out, and then he could sleep.

It was still on his mind when he tapped at her doorframe, pushing the curtain aside, "Serena?"

Weapos;ve unpacked more than half our stuff (we kinda have to - this house has tons of storage, but itapos;s almost all visible storage (the old house had a big olapos; attic, otherwise unusable, that we [stupidly] jammed full oapos; random stuff).

The nurseryapos;s done. The kitchenapos;s 90 done. The dining roomapos;s as done as itapos;s gonna be without more storage. The master and guest bedrooms are 75 done. The bathrooms are mostly done. The basementapos;s 50done (unpacking all the boxes there isnapos;t a high priority). The office is planned, but not done yet apos;cause we need more storage (we plan to buy file cabinets this weekend). The books are 75 unpacked, which is one of the more comforting things Iapos;ve seen recently (although everythingapos;s crammed willy-nilly apos;cause we donapos;t have time to be oapos;ganized just yet).

We havenapos;t started the living room, but I consider that the fun one, apos;cause thatapos;s when we get to unpack the CDs and DVDs that have been packed away. Itapos;ll take a while before we get the stereo all hooked up, apos;cause itapos;s a pain in the tuchis, and neither of us is adept with it.

The electrician has installed baseboard heat in Teddyapos;s playroom, run the cable from one side of the house to the other, and added an outlet for the deep freezer and lots of light to the basement. Heapos;s coming back next week to do GFIs and fix the doorbells. He doesnapos;t like to put in programmable thermostats, so Iapos;ll have to find someone else for that.

The plumberapos;s coming next week to fix a vent pipe and install a disposer. He doesnapos;t do tankless hot-water heaters, so I have to find someone else for that.*

The other cable company is supposedly coming on Monday (it was going to be yesterday or Monday, and it sure wasnapos;t yesterday) to hook us up to the interwebs.

Weapos;ve been to the grocery store, the hardware store, and the bagel store.

Iapos;ve transferred my prescriptions and completed paperwork for the move, purchase, and sale.

Peterapos;s run at least a dozen load of laundry. Iapos;ve organized the kitchen and planned the office and dining room.

We need to buy a bunch of file cabinets, a bookcase, a buffet/sideboard, CD storage (eventually - what we have will suffice for now), desk tops (one for the office, one for the basement), towel hooks, a surge protector, two push plates, spice shelves, a coat rack, and the aforementioned disposer.

I need to call the roofer with questions, another plumber about the hot-water heater, the driveway guy to seal the driveway (sellerapos;s paying for that one), the yard guy about whatapos;s pre-paid and what weapos;ll have to pay for, a chimney sweep, a handyman, and a massage therapist. Especially the massage therapist.

* Notice a theme here? Iapos;m hoping itapos;s not the general way of the world, Westa Wusta. The electrician is definitely a weird guy, though he does very good work. I gave him a prioritized list, which heapos;s methodically working his way through in the order of his own interest. If any of it were actually urgent, Iapos;d be really pissed off. Fortunately, itapos;s not urgent.

A few months ago I joined a number of Trad Craft lists. Iapos;m debating leaving one in particular. It is author based and I really love the author and some of the info on the list is great but the general rudeness is really beginning to get to me. I finally had to respond to one person who was saying some really bigotted and prejudice things about Wiccans. As I said recently I no longer feel like "Wiccan" discribes me and that is one of the reasons I started looking into trad craft but the ratio of wisdom to rudeness on some of these sites is getting a little much.

Another site I am on is a bit better but a few months ago they had this rediculously long thread about who is or is not witch queen of a particular tradition. Yawn Donapos;t get me wrong I love throwing my titles around but I mostly do it tongue in cheek.

So maybe I am a little too new agey for the trad craft community. I also think Iapos;m a little to dark for the New Age/Wiccan community. Iapos;m trying to live harmoniously in both. I actually fit in a little better in the Core Shamanist community. Iapos;m going to a Shapeshifting workshop tommorrow so maybe Iapos;ll meet some of the local shamanists.

And in the end you are going to see that she was the one. She was the one that loved you, the one that you had, the one you let go of. She stayed with you through all your troubles, She was right by your side every step of the way. No matter what stupd thing you said, or dumb action you made she always forgive you, trusted you and again, and gave you another chance. But all you wanna do is play many hearts and break many more, how naive can you be ?

If I could pick one person to hate, it would be me. I hate the way I cry when iapos;m frusterated. I hate the way my chest feels like itapos;s exploding when the odds are against me. I hate the way I leave everything to the last minute. I hate how guilty I feel when people tell me itapos;s all my fault. I hate me, so much that I feel like printing out a picture of my face, just for the purpose of ripping it to shreds. Iapos;ve been called strong, and I know that my strength is just one of those AKAapos;s for me not being a big baby and crying again. I know Alvaro goes through alot of pressure and irritation with me, because of the person I am. When he pours his heart out to me, itapos;s like heapos;s filled a picher with his love, and heapos;s pouring all his words onto my heart, so that I donapos;t have to think.. Ijust have to feel. Since when did man come up with emotions? Good Lord. I guess the hate exists to show a person what love feels like. The guilt shows how good it is to be pure. The sad just show how good the happiness could be, will be, and has to be. And when I feel like this? Itapos;s terrible. Itapos;s hell. On earth. Like every fucking day someone is riding on my back. Like my sister. Fucking bitch. This life iapos;m living is Godapos;s wrestling cage, the boxed in ones.. You know? Where the guys are all like RAWRRRGRRRRR And you see one guy climbing up the cage, and the other rips him off the cage and smacks him on the ground. Thatapos;s what my house is like My sister should be voluntereed to wrestle one of those guys. Sheapos;d cry.
But let me tell you this, ladies and gentlemen: I, Brittany Lynn Rios, am not perfect in any way. When you tell me I am, I wonapos;t believe you. When you say itapos;s not my fault, just cut to it- I already know it is. There is one person who I believe, and thatapos;s Alvaro. So what if my family hates him. They donapos;t fucking take the time to look a little closer, and see how I need him like my body needs blood. They donapos;t see that heapos;s a vital part of me.. Like how iapos;m made of 75 water. Iapos;m made of 100 Alvaro. Corny, yeah duh. Let me tell you, LiveJournal, iapos;ve made mistakes. A million. Plus one, oh yeah. But iapos;m making you a promise, myself as well, and iapos;ve got to stick to it. I need to have a set of words to grasp onto, and let this be it:
